About Janet,
I am proud to say that I am very active in the community and passionate about helping new families and promoting freedom in all aspects... birth freedom, freedom to feed your baby anywhere, and right to privacy. I am currently a Training Specialist for the Department of State Health Services providing breastfeeding trainings to hospitals, WIC staff, and birth professionals. I have been teaching breastfeeding classes and helping new moms to resolve a great number of breastfeeding issues since 2004. I am an IBCLC and DONA trained labor assistant. Though I don't have availability to be a Doula right now, I do provide in home lacation consults for new mothers having difficulty with breastfeeding. I am also taking an active role in promoting breastfeeding as the President of the Central Texas Breastfeeding Coalition. Please visit the site and get involved as well.
I have two beautiful children of my own. My first, 8 years ago, born naturally in the hospital; and my second, 6 years ago, born at home. My husband plays music with Jabarvy who is very fun to groove to. They have released two full albums and play lots of shows in Texas and surrounding states.

Lactation Experience
I have been helping women to breastfeed for the last 8 years. I received a bulk of my training through being a peer counselor for WIC and mentoring with local LCs. I attained my board certification as a Lactation Consultant in 2009. I have breastfed 2 children and though I had difficulty with both, with support and knowledge, we were able to overcome our difficulties and have a positive experience. Both of my children were breastfed for 2 yrs and I cherish that experience.
Birth Experience
I had my first child in the hospital and my second at home. I've experienced both spectrums with a doula and good family labor support for both. I feel that any woman can be a doula. There is an innate understanding of the change that is taking place during labor that any feminine grounding force will provide strength, and walk with you on the journey. My mom, even though she was not DONA certified, was a great Doula and was happily there for both of my births. However, having a trained doula that can really direct or help you onto an easier path and can make a big difference. My birth experiences let me to want to become trained as a birth doula as well. I have been DONA trained to provide this service but my current schedule no longer allows me the time to provide this service.
Doula Experience
After DONA training I did volunteer with GALS for close to 2 years and attended many amazing births, each of which I hold dear. I do still have several great videos and tons of great information about best birthing practices, writing a birth plan, essential books to read, and can provide extensive support for you and your birth partner if you are interested. I am also closely connected with the birth community in Austin and would be happy to refer you to the best doulas and midwives or most natural birth friendly hospitals in Austin.
