Breastfeeding Competencies for the Birth Professional
Birth and breastfeeding go hand in hand. Proceedures and events that happen in labor can effect breastfeeding outcomes. It is important as a labor assistant or midwife that you are able to provide evidence based information to your clients, assist with common concerns, recognize complications, and give accurate guidance to new moms. This training provides up to date information and techniques for helping your clients have a positive breastfeeding experience

Benefits and components of breastmilk
Overcoming breastfeeding barriers
Breast Anatomy / how milk is made
Basic suckling skills and assessing correct latch
Warning signs: (low milk supply, poor latch, poor milk transfer, jaundice)
Breastfeeding equipment: when is it needed
Being her support: The Doula’s role
